The mission of the National Institute of Public Health-National Institute of Hygiene is to protect the health of the population through actions taken in the field of public health, including research and training. This refers to the monitoring of biological, chemical and physical risk factors in food, water and air as well as diseases and infections control. NIPH-NIH offers expertise for the government, NGOs and civil society in the field of public health, risk assessment and indication how to avoid risks. The Institute also conducts research of sera and vaccines quality.
Health Summit 2016 took place at the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene on 20th. June 2016. It consisted of several short plenary lectures and six panel discussions addressing key problems of healthcare in Poland. This year these were: financing health care, drug policy of the state National Health Program, rare diseases, the importance of primary health care system.It has been the fourth time that the Health Summit 2016 has been organized by the National Institute of Public Health in collaboration with the Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies and the Institute of Healthcare.
Conference commemorating the centenary of the birth of prof. Jan Kostrzewski was held on 14th. June 2016 at the National Institute of Public Health-NIH. Prof. Kostrzewski was an outstanding epidemiologist, founder of the Department of Epidemiology at the National Institute of Hygiene, Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Inspector, Vice President of the World Health Assembly and the Chairman of the Executive Board of WHO. The conference was attended by family, former students and colleagues of prof.

Position of the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene on wind farms
The National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene is of the opinion that wind farms situated too close to buildings intended for permanent human occupation may have a negative impact on the well-being and health of the people living in their proximity.
The human health risk factors that the Institute has taken into consideration in its position are as follows:
- the emitted noise level and its dependence on the technical specifications of turbines,
The Warsaw branch of Polish Society of Microbiology invites for lecture presented by Prof. Waleria Hryniewicz
entitled “Are the antibiotics of new generation fulfill our expectations?“ The lecture takes place on the 3th of March 2016 at 2.00pm in Rajchman’s assembly hall in NIPH-NIH.
Subsequent scientific studies document the fact that vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) is safe!
In one of the latest issues of the Journal of the American Medical Association the results of a large cohort study with retrospective data collection were published. Researchers have shown no causal link between MMR vaccination and the development of autism spectrum disorder(ASD). American scientists have studied a large group of 95 727 children born in the years 2001-2007. Among them, children particularly vulnerable to ASD due to genetic predisposition, as their older siblings showed signs of autism spectrum disorders.
Department of Sera and Vaccines Evaluation at NIPH-NIH, associated within European network of OMCL-s (General European Official Medicinal Control Laboratories Network – GEON) was granted the attestation (EDQM/MJA-100 certificate) by European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines to perform batch release of immunological or blood-derived products and post-marketing testing.
